A settlement of €3.8 million has been agreed by the HSE, in the case of a 12-year-old boy who was left paralysed after being treated for meningitis.

There was a delay of 12 hours in treating Mathew McGrath after he was admitted to hospital and didn't receive antibiotics in a timely fashion.

Wexford General Hospital has admitted liability to Matthew and his parents.

The High Court settlement is an interim one to cover five years of his care.

Solicitor for the McGrath family is Roger Murray from Callan Tansey says Matthew is a bright boy who told the Judge in the case about his love for his favourite sport.
