350,000 Irish Households To Be Effected By Energy Price Hikes

Around 35,000 households are facing an energy price hike today, as two providers introduce increase their rates.

SSE Airtricity is increasing its gas and electricity charges by 9 percent, which will add an average of €115 to a household's annual gas and electricity costs.

Meanwhile Pinergy is upping its prices by 19 percent, which adds around €300 to an annual bill.

Head of Communications at bonkers.ie, Daragh Cassidy says the price hikes come on top of further increases earlier this year:

"In Ireland and in Europe there's been over 35 price hike announcements this year - and the year's not even over."

He said with all the price hikes combined, Pinergy customers are forking out around €780 more for their electricity each year.

SSE Airtricity customers will pay €500 more for their gas and electricity.
