5,419 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Ireland Today

5,419 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Ireland today.

As of this morning, there were 528 patients in hospital with the virus.

The number of patients in ICU now stands at 110.

Latest figures show the country's 14-day incidence rate has risen to 1,358 cases per 100,000 people.

Carlow has the highest rate, at 2,171.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach has this evening confirmed a range of new restrictions in response to the continued high virus numbers and concerns over the potential impact of the Omicron variant.

Nightclubs will have to shut from December 7th, while strict social distancing requirements will be in place for indoor venues including bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.

People are also being asked to keep household visits to a maximum of four households at a time (including the host household).
