The majority of people in Ireland say they back the current strike by nurses and midwives.

iReach insights has conducted a national survey of 1001 people, which shows 64% support the nurses.

The research also revealed that support is significantly higher among women than men.

37,000 members of the INMO are staging the second of their series of strikes in a dispute over pay and working conditions.

They're protesting outside hospitals and HSE-run facilities throughout the country.

87% of people in Ireland feel the government could do more to recruit and retain nurses.

Last night the INMO rejected a suggestion from Health Minister Simon Harris and Finance Minister Paschal Donohue for talks on issues other than pay.
