Pharmacies will begin vaccinating people aged 18 to 34 against Covid-19 from today.

More than 750 pharmacies will start giving the Johnson and Johnson single shot jab to that age group.

120,000 vaccines will be distributed to chemists over the next week.

Over 50 percent of the adult population will be fully vaccinated by tomorrow, with 4.4 million vaccine doses administered so far.

343,000 doses were given last week.

Eleanor Spooner is a pharmacist and co-owner of Spooner's CarePlus Pharmacy in Templeogue in Dublin.

She says they're starting straight away:

"When the announcement was made on Friday we pretty much were swamped with calls all day long.

"I'd say it could have been 100 to 200 calls in the whole day.

"We were caught off guard, but at the same time we're absolutely delighted now to be able to take part and be able to vaccinate this cohort.

"We were busy all weekend booking in our appointments and trying to get prepared and organised for this morning.
