Catherine Connolly has been inaugurated as the 10th President of Ireland.
The former Independent TD for Galway West was declared President at a ceremony in Dublin Castle this afternoon.
Three former Presidents, Mary Robinson, Mary McAleese, and Michael D Higgins sat behind Catherine Connolly as she took the oath of the President and received her seal of office.
The Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Simon Harris were also at the event in St Patrick's Hall, with former Taoisigh, Bertie Ahern and Leo Varadkar also attending.

President Connolly also spoke about the significance of her inauguration taking place on November 11th, Remembrance Day, and referenced the many wars and conflicts ongoing around the world.
Traditional Irish music featured heavily during proceedings with an uilleann piper and traditional harpist performing at the ceremony.
