Children from poorer households are 25 per cent less likely to feel like their teachers understand them.
That’s according to a new survey by Barnardos which says that most young people want to go to college, but don’t feel that the support is always there to do so.
The report, launched this morning, recommends that the state make primary education completely free.

Children from low-income families are also less likely to ask their parents for help with homework.
Meanwhile the number of children living in poverty has doubled since 2008, according to the Chief Commissioner for Irish Human Rights Emily Logan
Just a third of children from low-income families think they will be able to go to college.
