Closing Speeches Underway In Ana Kriegel Trial

The prosecuting barrister in the Ana Kriegel trial has asked the jurors to approach the evidence in the case “coldly and clinically”.

Closing speeches are now underway in the trial of two boys accused of murdering the 14-year-old schoolgirl in Dublin last year.

Both boys deny the charges.

After the jurors were told this morning that BOY B’s barrister wasn't going into evidence, prosecuting barrister Brendan Grehan then took to his feet to address them for a final time – some six weeks after he opened the case.

He said the case in short is that both boys lied to Gardaí when they were investigating Ana Kriegel’s disappearance on May 14th last year.

He claimed BOY A is guilty of her murder and aggravated sexual assault due to what he described as an “overwhelming forensic case against him”.

He said the case against BOY B is somewhat different in that there's no forensic evidence connecting him to Ana or the scene and the case against him relies on what came out of his own mouth.

He accused him of assisting the killing of Ana by playing a vital role in bringing her to the location where she was killed, of being present while it unfolded and of helping to cover up what happened afterwards by lying.
