An extradition hearing for a man wanted in connection with the deaths of 39 people who were found in a trailer in Essex is due to begin today.

22-year-old Eamon Harrison from Mayobridge, Co. Down is challenging his surrender to UK authorities.

On October 23rd, the bodies of 31 men and eight women were found in a lorry container at an industrial park in Grays, Essex – 15km east of London.

The driver has been charged with their manslaughter  -he has also been charged with people trafficking, immigration and money laundering offences.

Police in the UK suspect Eamon Harrison delivered the container to a Belgian port the day before it left for England.

He was arrested on foot of a European Arrest Warrant – the contents of which are due to be challenged by him when today’s hearing gets underway.

His barrister also mentioned certain “conflicts of uncertainties” and “complexities” to the warrant when the case was mentioned last week.
