How primary schools could teach coding to children is being looked at as part of a new school syllabus.
The Education Minister has written to the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment asking them to look at how it might be best taught.
Minister Richard Bruton wants particular consideration to be given to ensuring children have an opportunity to develop tech-related skills.
But expanding the curriculum is likely to be criticised by teachers who already say they don't have enough time for certain subjects.
In his proposal Minister Bruton noted the success and benefits of CoderDojo, a community based programming club for young people.
