Bill Kenneally has died in the Midlands Prison.

The convicted paedophile was serving a sentence of almost 19-years for sexually abusing young boys in Waterford from the late 70s through to the 90s.

It comes after a report published last week by the Commission of Investigation found Gardaí failed to conduct a proper investigation into Mr Kenneally's crimes.

The report also criticised a number of other states agencies.

Reacting to the news of Bill Kenneally's death, survivor Jason Clancy said he and his family are looking to the future.

A spokesperson for the Irish Prison service says, "The Irish Prison Service can confirm that there was a death of a person in custody at Midlands Prison on 18 June 2026.

"All deaths in custody are investigated by the Irish Prison Service, the Inspector of Prisons and An Garda Síochána, where circumstances warrant. The cause of death is determined by the Coroner’s Office.

Next of kin have been informed."
