82 seats still to be filled

78 of the 160 seats up for grabs have now been filled, with counting to resume in a number of constituencies this morning.

Sinn Fein still lead the field, but both Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are clawing their way back.

29 Sinn Fein candidates have now been elected to the 33rd Dail.

Fianna Fail has hit 16 while Fine Gael has 14 TDs, but the loss of two government ministers last night that will dominate headlines.

Mary Mitchell O'Connor and Regina Doherthy lost their seats in Dún Laoghaire and Meath East respectively.

Independent candidates have picked up 8 seats, the Greens 5, SOL-PBP and the Social Democrats have 2.

While Labour and Aontu have secured a seat each.

Mary Lou Mc Donald insists she will talk to all parties when it comes to forming a new government, but Taosieach Leo Varadkar says he intends to stand by the party's commitment not to enter into a coalition with Sinn Fein.

82 seats are still to be filled, with count centres re-opening their doors in the coming hours.
