A cyclist is in a critical condition after a hit and run in Dublin.

It happened last night in the north inner city.

A man in his early 20s was cycling at around 9 last night on Sheriff Street Upper, when he was struck by a car.

An ambulance took him to Beaumont hospital where he’s understood to be in critical condition this morning.

The car failed to stop at the scene, however, a vehicle matching its description was found abandoned a short distance away on Guild Street and has been removed for a forensic examination.

Gardai at Store Street are now appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact them.

They are particularly appealing to anyone with video footage - including dashcam - from the location to make it available to them.
