The defence in the assisted suicide trial of Dublin woman Gail O'Rorke says the jury is being asked to criminalise the making of travel arrangements.

The 43 year old of Kilclare Gardens, Tallaght is accused of attempting to help her friend Bernadette Forde take her own life in 2011 by booking flights to Switzerland where the Dignitas clinic is located.

The evidence was that Gail O'Rorke made plans to travel with her friend 51 year old MS sufferer Bernadette Forde to Zurich where the Dignitas assisted suicide clinic is located..

But the trip was thwarted when the travel agent contacted gardai.

Gail O'Rorke said she didn't know at the time she was doing anything illegal.

In his closing address to the jury prosecution barrister Remy Farrell said ignorance of the law is never a defence.

Gail O'Rorke's counsel Diarmuid McGuinness told them that the charge against his client appeared to be criminalising the act of making travel arrangements.

Earlier Judge Patrick McCartan withdrew 2 of the charges from the jury who are expected to begin deliberating on Monday.
