The Director of Public Prosecutions is to decide if a guard who shot a man dead in Dublin two and a half years ago is to be prosecuted.
27-year-old George Nkencho was shot dead by an armed garda outside his family home in Clonee in December 2020.
The Garda Ombudsman Commission announced this afternoon that it has completed its investigation and has decided to send a file to the DPP.
At the time of the shooting gardai said George Nkencho had been armed with a knife at a shop in Hartstown before walking home and subsequently threatening Gardai.
The armed response unit was called to the family home and Gardai said the 27-year-old had been shot after tasers and pepper spray proved unsuccessful.
His family has always said that he was suffering from a mental health crisis at the time of the incident.
