No arrests have been made in relation to the incident in Blackrock, Co. Louth
A man in his late 80s has been seriously injured in a stabbing incident near Dundalk in Co. Louth.
Shortly before 3 o'clock this afternoon, Gardaí and emergency services were called to Sandy Lane in Blackrock where an elderly man had sustained a number of apparent stab wounds following an altercation with another man.
The victim was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
A technical and forensic examination of the scene is underway.
No arrests have been made.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the area of Sandy Lane or the nearby Community Centre between 2pm and 3pm today to contact Dundalk Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
