Famine Officially Declared In Gaza

A United Nations-backed body has confirmed there's a famine in Gaza City and the surrounding areas.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification comes to that conclusion when at least 20% of people suffer extreme food shortages.

One in three children are acutely malnourished and two out of every 10,000 are dying daily from starvation and disease.

Israel rejects the findings, alleging it's based on "false and biased" information.

Tom Fletcher, the UN’s under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, says it's a preventable famine:

"My ask, my plea, my demand to Prime Minister Netanyahu: enough!

"Ceasefire. Open the crossings, north and south.

"Let us get food and other supplies in."
