Four men have appeared in court charged with the assault and false imprisonment of Kevin Lunney in September.

The men range in age from 25 to 66 and have addresses in Dublin and Cavan.

66-year-old Luke O'Reilly of Mullahoran Lower, Kilcogy, Co. Cavan, 38-year-old Alan O'Brien of Shelmalier Road, East Wall, Dublin, 25-year-old Darren Redmond of Calendon Road, East Wall, Dublin, and a fourth man who is 38 were arrested by Gardaí last week.

The men covered their faces using their hands and items of clothing as they were escorted into Virgina District Court this morning.

Luke O'Reilly and the 38 year old man, who can't be named due to reporting restrictions, were remanded in custody after no bail applications were made.

Two bail applications were made on behalf of Alan O'Brien and Darren Redmond, which were objected to by Gardaí on a number of grounds including concerns over evidence and potential witness intimidation.

Judge Denis McLoughlin refused both men bail.

All four have been remanded to Castlerea Prison.
