The National Emergency Coordination Group is warning it could take days for fuel deliveries to return to normal.

It's again urging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel and only purchase essential fuel.

Two of the country's main fuel depots will be at full operational capacity again today, after a six days of blockades and demonstrations.

Fuels for Ireland CEO Kevin McPartlan, said they now have full access to Foynes in Limerick, and the depot in Galway, however Whitegate in Cork is still 'slow' due to Gardai escorts in operation.

"Whitegate is still rather slow. The advice from An Garda Síochána is that truck movements in and out are in escorted convoys.

"So what that means is they have a staging post, they get seven or eight trucks together, put them in under escort, and then those seven or eight vehicles must leave together.

"It's adding a basically an hour to every movement, and that is reducing the number of trips that we can do".

Meanwhile, the Garda Commissioner has ordered all Gardaí to work until Tuesday evening.

Justin Kelly has directed all rest days be cancelled until 7pm tomorrow - an extension from 8pm on Monday.

'Exceptional Events' are declared when the Commissioner decides there is a security threat against the state.

Gardaí were informed of the extension last night.
