Government Reviewing Catering Services On Trains

A junior Transport Minister says the Government is reviewing catering services on Irish Rail intercity services.

It follows the Oireachtas Transport Committee yesterday which heard from representatives of the National Transport Authority who said there isn't enough money available to provide catering services on all routes.

Irish Rail say its "funding does not at this time cover the full restoration of catering services on board."

While it continued to say it will "engage with the NTA on funding issues and to explore options to restore catering on other routes."

The so-called 'tea trolley' was taken out of service due to Covid-19 restrictions five years ago, and has since been reintroduced on the Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Belfast lines.

Junior Transport Minister Sean Canney said today they "have to make the passenger experience a good experience."

He continued to say there's a demand for public transport and that needs to be met with "good services."
