The Government has comfortably survived a confidence motion in the Dáil.

Independent TDs Joe McHugh, Cathal Berry, Sean Canney, Noel Grealish, Michael Lowry, Denis Naughten, Matt Shanahan and Marc MacSharry voted with the Government.

While exiled Green Party TD Neasa Hourigan also voted with the coalition.

The final tally was 86 votes for the Government and 67 against.

During the debate Sinn Féin TD Louise O'Reilly said the Government has no idea what people facing eviction are going through:

"And I don't know if anyone on the government benches has ever been evicted.

"It is horrible.

"Absolutely horrible to have to hand your keys back to someone else to walk away from the place where you thought you might be able to build your family.

"It is awful to have that."
