Graduate Nurses In Galway Told There's No Work For Them

Graduate nurses in Galway have been told there's no work for them because of a HSE recruitment freeze.

Local Fianna Fáil TD, Eugene Murphy, says 64 of them have been on an internship in University Hospital Galway for several months.

They're due to complete the placement shortly.

But Deputy Murphy says they've been told there's no employment for them locally because of budgetary constraints.

He says these new nurses are effectively being 'dumped on the unemployment heap' after four years of training.

Eugene Murphy says the move by the HSE goes against what the Minister for Health and the government have said in relation to nursing recruitment.

He believes many of the new graduates in Galway will now be forced to seek jobs abroad.
