A status yellow high temperature warning has been issued for 12 counties.

The alert impacts the midlands and south east from 1pm on Friday until 7am on Sunday.

During that period, Met Éireann is warning of temperatures above 27 degrees Celsius, in Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

The forecaster is also predicting uncomfortable sleeping conditions at nighttime and a risk of heat stress.

There's also a warning for water safety issues due to an increased use of lakes and beaches.

A hot weather advisory remains in place for the whole country until next Tuesday.
