Hospital Support Workers To Strike Over Job Evaluation Scheme

Hospital support workers are to stage a 24 hour strike at 38 hospitals and health care facilities around the country later this month.

It's in a row over a job evaluation scheme affecting some 10,000 workers.

The strike will take place on Thursday the 20th of June.

Siptu says the workers affected are mainly Health Care Assistants, Maternity Care Assistants, Laboratory Aides, Chefs and Surgical Instrument Technicians.

Fianna Fail's Health Spokesperson Stephen Donnelly has called on both the Minister's for Health and Finance to liase with SIPTU in an bid to avoid the action.

Deputy Donnelly says a strike would have a huge impact on services throughout the country:

"If the 10,000 health support staff go through with their strike action, 38 hospitals across Ireland will be under immense pressure to deliver services for their patients."
