Ireland is on the verge of a codeine addiction epidemic according to a new medical report.
The opiate is used in over the counter pain-killers such as Solpadeine and Nurofen Plus.
Codeine dependency can develop within days while withdrawal symptoms can include chills, nausea and anxiety.
The Irish Medical Journal study says people may be 'codeine shopping' between multiple pharmacies undetected.
