Over five million people now live in Ireland with our population now at its highest level since 1851.
New CSO figures show Ireland's population was estimated to be 5.01 million in April 2021.
Its latest figures show the population rose by 34,000 in the year to April 2021.
65,200 persons immigrated here in that period.

More than 46 per cent of those were estimated to be returning Irish nationals.
It's the highest number of returning Irish nationals since 2007.
Around 28.5 per cent of the population lives in Dublin.
Statisticians at the CSO have said "It should be noted that this release covers the 12 months to April 2021. Therefore, the results contained in this release reflect some of the demographic and social impacts of COVID-19."
