It's understood a number of Irish citizens are on board a cruise ship off the US coast, where 21 people have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Grand Princess is currently moored off San Francisco and under orders to keep its distance from the shore.

All the passengers and crew are now being tested, and plans are being put in place to bring the ship to a non-commercial port.

21 people on the ship tested positive for the virus.

Among those on board is 60-year-old Kari Kolstoe who has stage four cancer - speaking via skype, she said she's worried about getting home in time for her next round of treatment.

US Vice President, Mike Pence, says the ship will be brought to a non-commercial port this weekend where all 3,553 passengers and crew will be tested for the viruys.

The Grand Princess has been stranded off the San Franciso coastline since Wednesday after it emerged a passenger from a previous cruise on the vessel had died from the virus.
