The Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has set fire to the world's biggest ivory bonfire - after demanding a total ban on trade in tusks and horns.

President Uhuru has set fire to 105 tonnes of ivory.

It's hoped the gesture will shock the world into stopping the slaughter of elephants.

The huge pyres, worth up to 70 million pounds, are expected to burn for days.

More than 30-thousand elephants are still killed every year on the continent to satisfy demand for ivory in Asia.
