The Law Society of Ireland claims an offensive WhatsApp group, run by a number of its male students, does not contain references to any female students.

The Society has made the statement following a review of the content contained in the group called "Tits and filth".

The Society's Director of Education TP Kennedy had previously issued a letter to students which said "a group of students had been posting inappropriate content relating to female students in messaging groups", which were "highly offensive".

The law school launched an investigation last week into the content of a private messaging chat between male students.

That investigation is not yet finished.

The Society will determine what further disciplinary steps are required when the investigation is concluded.

One female trainee has condemned the content of the Whatsapp group.

She said it is very worrying to find out that the men you are working and studying with could be hiding such a ‘misogynistic and sexist’ attitude.
