Leo Varadkar Survives Dáil No Confidence Vote

The Government has won a confidence motion in the Dáil this evening.

The Dáil expressed confidence in the Tánaiste and the government by 92 votes to 65.

Nine independent TDs voted with the Government parties of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party.

Sinn Féin brought forward the motion over the Fine Gael leader's sharing of a confidential GP contract with a rival doctors' group while he was Taoiseach.

In the Dáil this evening, Mr Varadkar again apologised for his actions - and said the confidence motion has caused him to reflect on them.

However, he criticised Sinn Féin for bringing forward the motion, and claimed it was an attempt by the opposition party to keep the story in the news for another week.

Mary Lou McDonald, meanwhile, argued: "What angers ordinary people is the Fine Gael leader's actions are par for the course.

"[It's] part of the insider cosy club politics that has done so much damage to our country."
