Less than five cases of Omicron have resulted in hospitalisations in Ireland, so far.

That's according to the latest Health Protection Surveillence Centre report up to Saturday.

193 cases of Omicron have been fully sequenced in Ireland, according to the Health Protection Surveillence Centre.

NPHET estimates the strain makes up two thirds of new cases - based on its characteristic s-gene drop-out in PCR tests.

In the year up to Saturday, the Omicron variant made up 0.4 percent of sequenced cases, and they're almost equally split across men and women.

More than half appearing in people aged between 19 and 34, while one in five were in those aged 35-44.
