Owners and residents at the Longboat Quay apartment complex in Dublin say the offer they have received from the Dublin Docklands Development Authority is 'totally unacceptable'.

The DDDA has offered to pay 2.75 million euro - or 58%- of the cost of making the complex - which doesn't meet fire standards - safe.

This leaves a bill of around 2 million euro to be financed by management and apartment owners.

In a statement this evening the residents and owners say the terms and conditions of the offer are unacceptable and they will be seeking legal advice.

One resident, Seamus Pullen, is not happy:

Statement:

In the past hour, we have received an offer of €750,000 from the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) towards fixing the outstanding fire safety issues at Longboat Quay.

We have received no formal confirmed offer at this point from the Receiver, however the Receiver has indicated it will make a contribution.

Fixing this problem is estimated to cost in the region of €4 million.

While the fact that an offer has been made is welcome, we believe it is wholly unacceptable. The terms and conditions attached to this offer are equally unacceptable, not least the demand to transfer responsibility for the common areas to the owners.

Given these realities, we remain unable at this point to award a contract to rectify the defects and therefore avoid enforcement action by Dublin Fire Brigade.

We are seeking legal advice and welcome the fact that the DDDA and Receiver are willing to enter negotiations.
