A man has been killed in a road crash between an e-scooter and a van in Co. Sligo.

It happened on the L1303 in the townland of Rusheen, Riverstown at around 8.10pm on Wednesday.

The man, who was aged in his 50's was, on an e-scooter when he was hit by a van. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van, who is aged in his 30s, was taken to Sligo University Hospital for treatment on minor injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with video or dashcam footage, who was travelling on the L1303 at Rusheen between 7.30pm and 8.15pm on Wednesday evening, to contact them at Ballymote Garda Station.

Last night's road death brings to 155, the number of people who've been killed on Irish roads so far this year.

It's a 30% increase on the same time last year, with 36 more road fatalities compared to the same time last year.
