And a man in the US state of Colorado, tried to blame a speeding ticket on his dog.

When stopped by police, he attempted to swap seats with his dog who was sitting beside him in the passenger seat.

He was pulled over on Saturday night after he got lost driving from Las Animas to Pueblo.

Police say they when they attempted to stop a vehicle traveling "52 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone"

Springfield Police Department reports "the driver attempted to switch places with his dog who was in the passenger seat, as the SPD officer approached and watched the entire process. The male party then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and claimed he was not driving".

In an online post, police say the man, who appeared intoxicated, attempted to run away after he was asked by an officer if he'd been drinking.

He was subsequently arrested about 20 metres from his car.

Police say the dog was "given to an acquaintance of the driver to take care of while the party was in jail" and "does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning".
