March has become the tenth month in a row to break global temperature records.

EU Scientists say every month since June of 2023 has now beaten its own 'hottest ever' tag, with last month seeing the hottest ever 12 month period.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service found last month was warmer globally than any previous March in the data record.

March 2024 recorded average surface air temperature of just over 14°C, 0.73°C above the 1991-2020 average for March and 0.10°C above the previous high set in March 2016.

Global average temperatures for the past year are also at an all-time high - and above the 1.5 degree target set by world leaders.

The global-average temperature for the past twelve months (April 2023 – March 2024) is the highest on record, at 0.70°C above the 1991-2020 average and almost 1.6°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial average.

In Ireland, data from Met Éireann for last month showed mean air temperatures across the country were above their Long Term Average for March.
