Michaella McCollum's issuing legal proceedings against an Irish newspaper.
Solicitors for Ms McCollum - who was released from jail in Peru last week - say she and her family were subjected to an intimidating incident of harassment as they tried to get into a taxi on Sunday.
It's understood the incident involved two reporters from an un-named daily newspaper.
It comes as the convicted drug mule faces criticism for a TV interview aired on RTE this week.
Kevin Winters law firm has asked that Michaella and her family's privacy be respected.
She is expected to serve out the remainder of her six year sentence in Peru.
