The chief executive of NAMA says he was "surprised" when he was told about the government's plans for the bank guarantee.
Brendan McDonagh says he was called into the Department of Finance at 9 o'clock the night the guarantee was introduced - but wasn't spoken to until 1am when it was already agreed.
At the time Mr McDonagh was the finance director of the N-T-M-A, the state agency responsible for managing Ireland's national debt.
He's told the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry that he was surprised with the news - because it hadn't been discussed beforehand:
