NASA has says it has discovered nearly 1,300 new planets in our galaxy.

The agency's Kepler space telescope scanned 150,000 stars in search of orbiting planets.

Of the newly discovered planets, nearly 550 have similarities to Earth.

Nine of these appear to have surface temperatures with potential to support life.
