A new survey has revealed that 49% of people in Ireland take at least one bogus sick day from work each year.

What's behind this false sickness?

Well, the Matrix Recruitment survey says hangovers are a significant factor in absenteeism.

Just over a third of people say tiredness or a late night caused their unofficial absence from work.

Almost a quarter felt they just deserved to take a day off.

Gender Divide

It turns out men are more keen on pulling a sickie than women.

31% of men clocking up four 'sickies' during the year.

Just 13% of women did the same.

Genuine

What about those times you're genuinely ill?

It turns out half of us feel guilty about calling in sick.

44% of people in Ireland are actually afraid to call in sick, even when they're actually ill.

If you think going in to work and sniffling all day is going to earn you a badge of honour with your co-corkers - you're wrong, even though 89% of respondents say they've done it.

60% of workers resent colleagues who come to work when sick.
