New Lead In Ashling Murphy's Murder Treated In Hospital For "Injuries He Couldn't Explain"

Gardai investigating the murder of Ashling Murphy are still waiting to speak to their main suspect, who's currently in hospital.

The 23 year old primary school teacher was killed while jogging along the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co. Offaly last Wednesday.

Conor Lally, crime and security editor with the Irish Times, says the man in hospital is the key focus of the investigation.

The suspect presented to hospital last Thursday evening with "injuries he couldn't explain".

His wounds, along with his links to Co Offaly, raised suspicion among healthcare staff and they rang the Gardaí.

Officers are reportedly seeking to obtain DNA from the person of interest to cross examine against the DNA discovered on a mountain bike linked to the murder.

Garda divers are still searching the canal to find any weapon that might have been used in the attack.

Ashling Murphy will be laid to rest tomorrow.
