A Minister for Agriculture will be appointed today after the resignation of Dara Calleary as the Dail resumes early after the summer recess.

The Taoiseach will take questions followed by a debate on Covid-19 legislation.

The Dail will return at 2 pm after Taoiseach Micheal Martin recalled it two weeks early amid controversy over the Covid crisis and the fall-out from GolfGate.

The post-golf dinner resulted in the resignation of his Agriculture Minister, with a replacement due to be announced today.

Minister of State Charlie McConalogue is widely tipped to be the third Agriculture Minister this Dail has seen.

Proposed legislation that will see Gardaí given the power to close pubs that are not complying with Covid-19 rules will also be debated.
