A man in his 20s is being questioned in connection with an alleged hit-and-run in Co Donegal, in which a nine-year-old boy died.

The boy has been named locally as Ronan Wilson from Kildress, Co Tyrone.

He died after he was hit by a car, while walking along Atlantic Way in Bundoran at around 9.20pm on Saturday night.

A man in his 20s was arrested by Gardaí on Sunday evening. He's being held at Garda station in Co Donegal.

Sinn Féin Councillor for Bundoran, Michael McMahon, says it's a tragedy.

"It's a very sad day and a very sad day in Bundoran and the area here. People are really upset about this.

"The whole town is in a state of shock".
