Over €60,000 Raised To Repatriate Family to Iraq After Galway Crash

More than €60,000 has been raised to repatriate the bodies of a family killed in a car crash in Galway back to Iraq.

Karzan Ahmed, his wife Shahen and their nine-month old daughter Lina died when their car was hit on the M6 near Ballinasloe on Thursday.

Another car had been travelling the wrong way down the dual carriageway.

The organisers of the fundraiser say baby Lina never got to meet her family in Iraq, and are trying to bring their bodies back home.

They said the the only small comfort they have is knowing that the family "are still together".

Karzan, a PhD student, and Shahen were from Erbil, the Kurdish region of Iraq,

Fundraise organisers has thanked NUI Galway and the  the Kurdish community across Ireland for their support in the last few days.

The GoFundMe page is available here.
