A row's broken out between Scotland and Ireland over fishing rights at Rockall.

The Scottish government says it will take action against Irish vessels found fishing in the Rockall zone from this weekend on.

The government here rejects the threat - but has put the fishing industry on notice.

The Rockall Row intensified overnight when the Tanaiste Simon Coveney and Marine Minister Michael Creed confirmed they'd received formal notice from the Scottish Government that it's preparing to take "enforcement action" against Irish vessels.

It first raised the matter two years ago following the Brexit Referendum.

Ireland's position is that Irish fishing vessels are legitimately pursuing EU fishing rights in the Rockall Zone and have done so for decades.

Marine Minister Michael Creed says he's very disappointed by the threat against Irish crews fishing legitimately in the waters around Rockall.

Tanaiste Simon Coveney says the Irish Government has never recognised UK sovereignty over Rockall or the seas around it... he said they regret matters have reached this point - but they intend to do everything possible to reach a satisfactory resolution.
