Dee Forbes, the Director General of RTÉ, was suspended from her employment on Wednesday.

It's as RTÉ admitted it paid Ryan Tubridy €345,000 more than declared from 2017 to 2022.

The broadcaster has described it as a "serious breach of trust".

A review was carried out by Grant Thornton into RTÉ's accounts - which was discussed by the board of the broadcaster on Monday.

It found payments totaling €345,000 were paid to Ryan Tubridy between 2017 and 2022 - over what was made public.

A statement from the broadcaster today (Friday) on the suspension of Dee Forbes says "there are processes ongoing and RTÉ must be mindful of its legal responsibilities and the rights of individuals".

It adds it will not be commenting further on this issue at this time.

Dee Forbes has also issued a statement this evening, which reads:

"In response to the statements issued yesterday and today by the RTÉ Board I would like to make the following points. I have been fully engaged with the Board since this matter arose in the course of the audit of the accounts. When asked in April 2023, I participated in the review conducted by Grant Thornton to determine the full circumstances and facts surrounding two specific payments to fulfil a contractual obligation for the years 2021 and 2022.

Meanwhile, the former chair of RTÉ says the board wasn't told about secret payments to Ryan Tubridy.

Moya Doherty said they should've been briefed about the undeclared 345 thousand euro between 2017 and 2022.

She left the role last November.

Ryan Tubridy was not on radio this morning as the fallout continues.
