Mary Lou McDonald almost doubled the quota

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has topped the poll in Dublin Central with 11,223 votes.

She almost doubled the quota in the constituency and was the 12th Sinn Féin TD elected to the 33rd Dáil.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe was well short of the 6,288 quota with 4,181 votes.

So far, Sinn Fein and the Greens have secured the first seats  - 14 Sinn Fein seats.

The election of Sinn Fein’s Paul Donnelly in Dublin West on the first count means Leo Varadkar is the first sitting Taoiseach who hasn’t topped the poll in his constituency but he will be elected on the second count.

Elsewhere the party has secured seats in Waterford, Carlow Kilkenny, Dublin North West, Wexford, and Cork North Central amongst others.
