Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley took part in six Dáil votes last week even though he wasn't in the Dail Chamber

The Ceann Comhairle has asked for a report to be prepared in relation to reports of misconduct with Dáil votes.

Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley has responded to claims he took part in a number of votes in the Dáil last Thursday, despite not being present.

Deputy Dooley took part in six Dáil votes last week despite not being present. The votes were carried out despite footage from the chamber showing that the Clare TD was absent.

There were wide margins in all of the results from the votes and his would not have impacted the outcome.

Deputy Dooley said a colleague cast the votes on his behalf as he thought he was still in the room but that it had no material impact on the results.

Deputy Dooley stepped out to take a phone call during Dáil voting last Thursday and his colleague and Limerick TD Niall Collins voted on his behalf.

His vote was counted on 6 out of 8 occasions on amendments to a Green Party motion on forestry and a Sinn Fein motion on the living wage.

The Ceann Comhairle's asked the Clerk of the Dáil to prepare a report on the conduct of the votes for his urgent attention.

Mr Dooley says Deputy Collins voted thinking he was still in the chamber.
