Sligo has been named the cleanest town in the country.
It's the first time it's taken the top spot with Leixlip in Co Kildare, Westport in Co Mayo, Monaghan town and Tullamore in Co Offaly completing the top 5 in the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) rankings.
Sligo Town40 towns and cities were judged with the number of towns deemed clean in 2025 rising to 28. No town or city was judged to be “seriously littered”.
Sligo Town was praised for its consistently strong performance in recent years with the judges saying Quayside Shopping Centre was “absolutely spotless throughout”, while the they also highlighted the tidiness of the bus and train stations, as well as Grattan Street and Castle Street.
Dublin’s north inner city is bottom of the IBAL rankings at number 40, however, the judges found there was much less litter compared to the previous year.
2024 winner Naas in Co Kildare slipped to number 13 in the table.
