State Launches Plan To Deal With Human Trafficking

A range of supports are to be provided to victims of human trafficking in Ireland.

The Government has launched a National Action Plan to deal with the issue.

A new referral scheme is being introduced to make it easier for victims to come forward.

There will also be training for those who may come into contact with victims.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee says it's important for victims to know that support will be available:

"This is the most appalling type of crime.

"When you think of it; this is treating individuals, people like commodities and those who are responsible for this have absolutely no respect for human dignity, for human life, or for basic human rights.

"So it is really important that those who are victims know that there is a pathway for them to get help, to be provided with assistance and support."
