Storm Barra: Schools In Status Red And Orange Counties Told To Close Tomorrow

Schools in counties under status red or orange weather warnings shouldn't open tomorrow, the Department of Education has said.

Storm Barra is approaching from the Atlantic, and is expected to bring very windy weather right across the country.

Status red wind warnings have been issued for three counties so far - Clare, Cork and Kerry.

Status orange wind warnings are in place for Dublin, Limerick, Louth, Waterford, Galway, Mayo, Wexford, Wicklow and east Meath.

In a statement, the Department of Education said schools in all those counties should close tomorrow due to the significant nature of the storm.

However, they say other schools across the country should also keep an eye on the weather warnings in case they change over the coming hours.

Gardaí are advising that all unnecessary travel should be avoided in the red and orange counties while the warnings are in place.

They said Limerick and Galway are also expected to go to 'status red' warning, while Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare are also likely to be 'severely impacted' by the storm tomorrow morning.
